Hi, I’m Wylie.

I’m a copywriter and editor based in Los Angeles, and this is my portfolio.

I believe in the power of words, and the enormous difference between good writing and great copy. If you’re searching for clear, creative copy that stands apart, you’re in the right place.

ENTERTAINMENT

I currently freelance with several agencies to write copy and taglines for the key art of niche and tentpole programming from all the major entertainment brands, including Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Hulu, Apple+, Peacock, and Disney. There are some recent finishes.

Tech

Soda is a data management software company based in Belgium; their products help enterprise businesses collect good data—and thereby insights—from messy databases. Copy work included ads, tradeshow materials, and swag.

OpenSea is the world's first and largest web3 marketplace for NFTs and crypto collectibles. As such, it aims to have the best educational resources on NFTs, their varieties, the technology they’re built on, and all the terminology that consumers encounter in the crypto world. My job was to write long-form expository pieces that make it understandable and accessible to the layperson.

RETAIL

Jimmyjane is a luxury wellness brand with products ranging from fragrances to vibrators. The brand’s identity included a touch of whimsy and playfulness, and my work centered around establishing this in their product names and packaging, such as the premium “Little Something” vibrator and the “Afterglow” candle (made of body-safe soy wax that could be used as a massage oil). These little touchpoints of microcopy helped surprise and delight the customer, as well as establish the brand’s unique voice and approach in their mind.

ThAT Time I Wrote a Book

In the summer of 2011, I wrote an article satirizing historical events by playing them out on a Facebook feed. The article went viral online, and a few days later HarperCollins called.

A History of the World According to Facebook was published a few months later. It sold over 100,000+ copies and was translated into German and Finnish.

In 2018, I wrote a Revised Edition to include the world events of the intervening years since the first book. Some rich and terrifying material in those years… hoo boy.

SOCIAL

For this feature documentary on the International Space Station by Academy Award nominee Al Reinert, I created a series of image macros featuring interesting or little known facts about the station (and captions that explained further). In a matter of months, this content alone grew the films’ Instagram and Facebook followers from 0 to over 12,000. Unfortunately, Al passed away in December 2018 and the project ended.
